So as most of you may already be aware, Forestians are able to harness a type of magic known as "jupiter", sometimes dubbed "mana"(depending on where the Forestian is from). In this fun facts, I'll be discussing various types of magic used around the globe, ranging from commonplace to something a little more obscure. I hope you all enjoy!
Terminology
Jupiter - The magic force that flows through everything in the world of Forestia, living or not. Only about half of the population of Forestia are born with the ability to harness this power, and this trait appears to be genetic. Some Forestians are capable of teaching themselves how to use magic after vigorous training, but a large number cannot learn how to harness jupiter's power no matter how much they train.
Mana - A term used throughout the continent of Shisui in place of "jupiter". This term became more commonplace after the War of Forestia, when Shisui was defeated and Discral gained independence.
Pool - The amount of jupiter within one's soul. It refills over time, but if used up completely, the user will die.
Primary Magic
Primary magic is a type of magic any Forestian with the power can learn with a decent amount of training. Some of these powers are learned at birth, and some require a bit more training.
Basic Fire - Fire comes in several forms on Forestia, but the most basic form of fire can be learned by just about anyone. Sometimes dubbed "orange flames", it works just as a real fire would. Without learning a protective spell as well, it will burn the user.
Thunder and Lightning - Thunder and lightning magic, while technically separate, need to be learned together for the other to work. Thunder provides the initial spark for a lightning attack, and lightning amplifies thunder a massive amount. Lightning comes in a blue and yellow variation, depending on the intensity. Blue being the more powerful of the two.Without learning a protective spell, it will burn the user.
Water Manipulation - Water manipulation includes the ability to mold water(as a solid, liquid, or gas) into any shape, and to project it as a weapon. Users of this type of magic typically create jets of boiling water, or send spikes of solid ice flying toward their opponents. Although outlawed by the New Stellian and Archsteminish governments, this magic can also be used to instantly boil or freeze the blood of another Forestian once the user comes into contact with their blood. This method is used for executions in Tapula.
Earth Manipulation - Earth manipulation includes the ability to mold various minerals within the earths of Forestia, such as gold, steel, graphite, and very skilled users maintain the ability to mold solid ground into any shape they please. Most users of this type of magic are born with this ability, since learning to manipulate several different types of minerals at once requires a lot of energy without natural talent or intense training.
Telekinetic Abilities - Telekinesis can be anything from to making objects float, to ripping the arms off of another Forestian. Practice of telekinetic abilities is outlawed in every Forestian nation except for Tapula. However, both New Stellia and Archstemina allow citizens with a military license practice this ability. Those born with it are treated the same way one with a mental disability would be, and are often required to take medicine to suppress it.
Wind - The ability to control the flow of wind is often considered common, and is one of the first things taught in magic schools. Those who harness this ability usually can create large gusts of winds to blow their opponents away, but the gusts are almost always brief. Those who spend their lives devoted to this magic are able to conjure up massive storms, control clouds, and even make rain or snow fall from the sky. Usage of wind magic is legally limited in Shisui and Archstemina.
Recovery - Recovery magic includes the ability to close open wounds, convert water into blood(for those suffering from blood loss), and performing something similar to X-Ray and CT-scans with one's eyes. Those with this ability usually become doctors(unsurprisingly).
Forest - Most Forestians do not consider Forest magic a very profound usage of jupiter, but the White Star Alliance has ruled that all nations must accept it as a legal form of magic. This ability includes manipulating any plant life to your will, including having a tree's branches stretch out and attack an unsuspecting opponent, and the ability to call vines up from the ground. Despite the White Star Alliance's decision, Discral has placed a heavy ban on this type of magic, excluding its mention from textbooks altogether.
Necromancy - Outlawed throughout the globe, necromancy is still considered an official form of magic by the White Star Alliance, but without the requirement of its legality. Necromancy includes the ability to reanimate a corpse of any organism on Forestia, including Forestians themselves. If they have not yet passed on to Angilus or Castysius, then their souls will be ripped back to their bodies, broken and empty. Only Discral has not outlawed necromancy nationally, but it is allowed with limited usage in Archstemina's state of Nillaodran.
Coming up next will be secondary magic, and the infamous shadowmare! Have any characters with one of these skills? Let me know!
